What is SEO and why is it important in digital marketing?

SEO is the abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization, which is the art of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.

SEO is significant for all businesses because it makes your website more visible, and that means more traffic and more chances to turn website visitors into customers. After that, it is also an important tool for businesses to increase brand awareness and build relationships with customers. I am going to explain a few things about SEO and why its so important in digital marketing for businesses today and the elements involved in it.

I will talk about 3 of the main elements of SEO below.

The first element is : Keywords

Keywords must be well-researched and carefully chosen when being used in your content in order to be effective and drive more traffic to your website. Keywords are words and phrases that potential customers use to find products they are looking for online and that businesses can then use to connect with customers who are looking for their products and services online through search engines.
When researching keywords, it’s important to look for ones that have high search rates and low competition and to choose short-tail keywords , long-tail keywords , and local keywords  to work into your content. 

The second element is Content 
Content is a major part of SEO because it’s the tool you use to reach and engage audiences. An example of this would be, if you owned a gardening centre and wanted to increase your awareness you might want to write some information about gardening, plant growing tips and types of plants. When a person wants to know about gardening and goes looking for that information, yours information would come up, and you'd be able to build a relationship with that person by providing valuable information on gardening and this will mean hopefully if the person decides to buy some plants they will choose your nursery. The content that is be uploaded must be educational, but also interesting and relevant to the topic area that you are in. This can be done via blogs, website posts and on social media.

The last element i will talk about is Search engine marketing.
Search engine marketing (SEM) invloves paid marketing strategies, and includes things like  Google AdWords, Social media ads and pay-per-click(PPC).
SEM can help you reach new and highly targeted audiences by using keywords that draw traffic to your website and boost your posts to the top ranking ahead of organic listings which will increase the amount of people who see your post. These can be paid social media ads through Facebook and Instagram which is vital in todays society when marketing as it can get the most traffic.

Finally, SEO will be vital in your businesses digital marketing strategy and should be done professionally to ensure the high levels of traffic are reaching your website. This can be a starting point in building relationships and then potentially turning them into profitable customers.
